ABOUT TABITHA
Tabitha has always been drawn to the arts and has engaged in many practices over time such as poetry, painting and weaving, however she has a particular love and affinity with clay
Around 2013 she began to work more seriously and devotedly with clay and this sparked her decision to embark upon a degree in 3D Design Crafts at Arts University Plymouth.
There she enjoyed experimenting with a diverse range of materials such as glass, wax and fabric, as well as clay.
Since graduating Tabitha has set up her own small business teaching handbuilt pottery and sculpture techniques to adults and children in her home studio in Totnes, Devon.
Tabitha makes a varied range of work, however her latest passion is her growing collection (or family) of hanging pods.
She enjoys the repetitive process of casting, combined with the creative variables in the final composition of clays, glazes and of the casted pieces to create unique pieces, a bit like a family!
Her hanging pods are currently made by means of original hand built prototypes, from which she makes plaster molds. From the plaster molds, she produces slip casted components from different clay bodies that can be joined to create new forms. A pod is a protective container of life and potential waiting to emerge. These pods can be stand alone abstract art pieces for your home or garden, or additionally they can be put to practical uses such as for lighting or plants or in the garden as bird feeders.
